Ram 1500 Ecodiesel Recognized for "Best Engine"

This week, Ward's Auto revealed its highly anticipated "10 Best Engines" list for 2014. This is the 20th year for Ward's 10 Best Engines. The competition was originally created to recognize outstanding powertrain achievement, world-class innovation and rare engines or electric propulsion systems. To be eligible, a new or significantly improved engine or propulsion system must be on sale in a production vehicle during the first quarter of 2014 and have an MSRP of less than $60,000.

One of the award-winning diesels on the list was the 3.0-liter V6 engine of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel truck. The Ram Ecodiesel truck was released earlier this year, and it is currently the only light duty diesel truck in the industry. The EcoDiesel engine delivers 420 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an impressive 240 horsepower, this engine has serious muscle. In addition to the powerful performance that the Ram EcoDiesel boasts, it is also equipped with a diesel oxidation catalyst, diesel particulate filter, and selective catalyst reduction in order to cut down on emissions. These technologies ensure that the EcoDiesel V6 engine will be compliant for emission standards in all 50 states.

It gets even better. While testing the Ram 1500 Ecodiesel V6, editors at Ward's achieved better than 24 MPG in mixed driving, which is practically unheard of for a truck this size. Editors at Ward even went so far as to state, "Count on the Ram 1500 to deliver even better fuel economy during steady highway driving." That means that the Ram 1500 Ecodiesel V6 literally delivers it all: power, efficiency and fuel economy.

Through thorough examination, research and test driving Ward was able to distinguish the best engines of its kind and the new Ram 1500 Ecodiesel was determined to be nothing short of excellent. If you are in the market for a powerful and efficient truck, check out the 2014 Ram 1500.
